Stewardship of Resources

“Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”  – 1 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV)

Stewardship is not just about managing finances; it’s about our entire approach to the resources God has entrusted to us, including our time, talents, relationships, and material possessions. When we view everything we have as belonging to God, it changes how we handle what’s in our hands. We become caretakers of what is ultimately His, entrusted with the responsibility to use these resources wisely and faithfully.

We live in a culture that promotes ownership, often encouraging us to accumulate more and hold tightly to what we have. But God calls us to be generous, not just in giving but in how we manage all aspects of our lives. Faithful stewardship involves recognising that every gift, every opportunity, and every blessing comes from God’s hand. It means using our talents to serve others, investing our time in things that matter, and sharing our resources with those in need.

One of the greatest challenges of stewardship is the temptation to compare what we have with others, feeling either superior or inadequate. But God doesn’t measure stewardship by quantity; He measures it by the heart. A faithful steward understands that it’s not about how much you have but how you use what you’ve been given. Our responsibility is to trust God’s provision, honour Him with our first fruits, and be diligent in all we do, knowing that our ultimate reward comes from Him.

Prayer

Gracious Father, thank You for blessing me with the resources I have. Help me to be a faithful steward in all areas of my life. Teach me to hold my possessions loosely and to share generously, knowing that everything I have is a gift from You. May I honour You with my time, talents, and treasures, using them not for my gain but for Your glory. Give me wisdom in managing my resources and the courage to give even when it costs me. Let my heart be aligned with Your purposes, and may I be found faithful in all that You have entrusted to me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
